In The big apple, the competition is fierce. And it’s not just retailers, restaurants, and Madison Avenue ad agencies that are fighting for a slice of the economy. Dog lovers are starting businesses by the Manhattan.
Dog day-care centers are created completely Manhattan. In accordance with a recent Wall Street Journal article, the New York City Health Department says that there is 467 licensed dog day-care centers within the city. Among the many facilities that provide this service are Biscuits & Bath, Canine Club NYC, the New York Dog Spa and Hotel, and The Salty Paw.
These pooch pampering companies most likely are not Wall Street titans, but they don’t seem to be entirely unconnected to the family of finance. Scott Smith, the co-owner of Biscuits & Bath, lists his job at JP Morgan as part of his Wall Street credentials.
Mitchell Marrow, owner of Canine Club NYC, also hails from the financial community. On his Business, CanineClubNYC.com, he says he worked via an international trading position for UBS Warburg, and also on a few hedge funds.
Dog care businesses may be of concern to the Wall Street crowd because the pet market procedes thrive. Packaged Facts, a market research company, says inside the introduction to its report, U.S. Pet Market Outlook 2010-2011: Tapping into Post-Recession Pet Parent Spending: “As noted, the pet market has fared well overall despite the recession.” This research publisher attributes robust spending within the pet market to attract readership and traffic contemplating their pets as folks and contemplating themselves as pet parents.
Maybe that’s why Ny dog day-care facilities offer additional services which a pet parent might like, including boarding, training, and transportation. Needless to say, grooming is necessary for pet owners. “Grooming your dog is critical to his fitness and well-being,” says Sandy Blackburn in her own book, The Everything Dog Grooming Book. She adds that it “helps rid him of his shedding coat and empowers you to view his body up close in order to detect any changes, lumps, bumps, or parasites.”
The New York Dog Spa and Hotel says it can groom dogs towards the breed standard. This doggie hotel also allows customers to move the groomer a photo showing just what the final canine hairdo should resemble.
The Salty Paw goes a pace further. Its Website shows before and after photos of a variety of dogs which the staff groomed. Essentially the most unusual photo depicts a Bichon which was a dyed to resemble a panda bear for Halloween.
Biscuits & Bath offers several amenities in every grooming session. They include all-natural shampoos and conditioners, ear cleaning, plus a manicure and pedicure. There also exist optional services like hot oil treatments, flea and tick dips, and teeth brushing.
More exotic grooming services are on offer with the Shampooch Dog Salon & spa in chicago Westchester, The big apple. This salon offers spa packages where dogs might be given a bath, a facial scrub, a nail and paw treatment, vitamin conditioner, and aromatherapy perfume.
Pet pampering isn t likely to turn out anytime soon. The American Pet Products Association (APPA) estimates that American consumers will spend $50.84 billion on pets this season. APPA lists last year’s pet expenditures as $48.35 billion.
